Hello people of Tourism stage 5, I am on your screen today to tell you all about my amazing trip to Queensland and to be specific I will be talking about when I swam in the Great Barrier Reef.
In 2018 I took a trip with my family of 5 other people so 6 including me and we packed our stuff on Monday a week before christmas and took a 29 hour road trip to Port Douglas in Queensland where we would stay at a hotel until christmas day where we would leave in the afternoon. The first time we stopped at queensland it was about 6am on Tuesday to stop at a cafe and eat some breakfast, the cafe was very nice it was right next to a beach which had many people surfing while other people were out and about but the thing that I was surprised about was that the people walking around and the people surfing had looked like they were up for hours, while I on the other had was starving and tired from the car ride here.
I think it was about Thursday when my dad called Charlie (brother), Peter (step brother), Olivia ( step sister) and myself to the living room in the hotel. Once we all settled down and took our seats on the lounge he said that today would be a different type of day so instead of going to the theme parks we would be going our separate ways. He said that Sarah (my step mum ) was going to take Olivia and I somewhere where we needed to wear our swimmers and then he would take Peter and Charlie somewhere.
From there we all hopped into the car and we drove to some shops near a beach. From there Sarah, Olivia and I hopped out of the car and looked around at the shops as we still had time until our surprise, so Sarah took us to a nearby Hog’s Breath Cafe where we ate some amazing food while sitting outside and looking at the view of the quiet beach. When we has finished our lunch Sarah had told Oliva and myself that our surprise is that we would be snorkeling in the Great Barra Reef, hearing this news Olivia and I actually got along for once because we were so excited that we behave ourselves so there we no chance that Sarah would call it off.
When we had finished paying for our food we all walked down to the docs where from there we would wait in a line to get onto our boat. When I saw the boat I was a little disappointed as I was expecting to have a boat the size of a cruise, whereas this one was the size of a fairy. We waited about 5 minutes in the line before we hopped on the boat. Once the boat was moving some crew people came around the boat to hand us wetsuits, flippers, snorkels, weird looking goggles and pool noodles so that if we got tired we chill and float, they also told us the rules about swimming in the reef and they also told us that we should be careful because it was the time of year for jellyfish to be around.
By the time everyone got ready the boat was already at the island. Well I wouldn't really call it an island more like a pile of sand in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef. Once everyone had hoped off the boat one of the crew ladys told us that for the first couple of minutes that we were going to swim in the reef that if we would like we could follow her and she would show and tell us about the animals and plants that call the reef home. I looked at Sarh to ask if it was ok if I could go with the mini tour and she said that Olivia and I can just go and swim but if we wanted to go with the crew member we could. So with that I hopped in the water and followed the crowd, as we swam around with the guide telling us about the reef I keepted looking down into the water looking at the fish that swam away when we got too close and the bright coral just wondering how amazing it looked.
When the mini tour was over and we went our separate ways. I decided to swim away from where most of the other people were hanging out because I wanted to look at the magical world under the water by myself in peace and quiet. As I was swimming I was amazed by not only the amount of fish I saw but the size of them, because when you find fish at a beach they are normally the tiny fish but these fish were huge bigger then my hand. There was one fish in particular that I was really interested in and it wasn’t because it was lacking the bright colour that all the other fish had. This fish caught my attention because it was following me and when I would look at it it would hide in nearby coral, so for maybe 10 minutes I was just swimming and playing hide and seek with this fish.
After the fish got bored and left me I was still swimming around looking at the coral, while I was swimming and chilling I thought to myself that the Great Barra Reef under the water looked like Las Vegas but for fish. After we had our swim we had to head back to the Island but on the way there was a turtle and it was so close that when I was swimming back to the Island I swam so close to it I could touch it. When everyone got onto the land we had to take off our wetsuits, goggles, flippers and give back our pool noodles before we could hop back on the boat. After we arctived back on the dock dad and my brothers were waiting to pick us up and from there we drove back to the hotel and by the time we got back had showers, got dressed into our pajamas and had dinner I was exhausted from the day that I hopped into bed and fell asleep straight away.
